This guide on impact measuring of philanthropic work goes beyond project or programme evaluation: It shows that in order to achieve impact "Evaluative Thinking" has to be an integral part of philanthropic strategy and management. The guide summarises the stages necessary for philanthropy with impact. These include thinking of how the desired results could be achieved, checking if they have been achieved and thinking of how they could be achieved better in the future - in ALL stages of a project. The author, Dr. Edward Pauly, has been director of research and evaluation at the US Wallace Foundation since 1996.
