Alexander Brochier, a German entrepreneur in the building services engineering industry and father of three kids, knew from the beginning of this career that he wanted to do something for disadvantaged children. But instead of focusing solely on a range of selected projects he established the Brochier Foundation Fund for Children (Brochier Kinderfonds Stiftung) - a platform that supports other donors in their efforts to set up and manage their own foundation. The idea was born when Alexander Brochier himself experienced how difficult it was to allocate his first donations wisely and effectively. The fund helps to leverage impact, Brochier thinks: " If you give away 1,000€ directly to children projects, that's okay - but the money is gone. But if you invest the same amount to attract others to also invest 1,000 € for children’s' issues you can achieve much greater effectiveness."
Today the Brochier Foundation Funds for Children focuses its work on three areas: Direct support of innovative external projects, development and implementation of own projects, and the operation of the so-called Stiftungszentrum.de (Centre of Foundations) that provides back-office services for other smaller and medium-sized foundations. Many of the foundations under the rooftop of the Stiftungszentrum work and engage globally while the Brochier Foundation's project work focuses on Southern Germany and the Czech Republic.
Entrepreneur and philanthropist Alexander Brochier is an advocate for the idea of giving in Germany and was awarded the German Donor's Prize (Deutscher Stifterpreis) of the Association of German Foundations in 2006 for his efforts.
